Power. Cadence. Distance. Performance data is integral to many an indoor cycling experience. Riders use these metrics to track progress, benchmark performance and guide training. Coaches rely on them to prescribe workouts. Operators use them to deliver richer, more engaging class experiences.

But there’s an obvious question: How do you know the numbers are right?

At BODY BIKE, we believe accuracy shouldn’t simply be claimed. It should be proven. That’s why we’ve spent the last 18 months developing Precision Lab™ – a proprietary testing environment that independently verifies the accuracy of BODY BIKE’s data.

Sitting outside of the bike itself, this laboratory-grade testing system has been designed and developed in collaboration with engineering and industrial design specialist Artlinco A/S. Built in Denmark, it is manufactured from industrial-grade European components that are able to withstand repeatable, high-duty cycle testing.

The purpose of Precision Lab? To independently verify that the power, cadence and distance data generated by our bikes – and displayed in the BODY BIKE app – accurately reflect riders’ true output.

And so, as we push forward in our quest to create the world’s most accurate indoor bike, we’ve embedded Precision Lab into our manufacturing process, rigorously and objectively testing every batch of BODY BIKES before they leave our factory.

An independent reference

Precision Lab is powered by a 2.2kW industrial electric motor that drives the bike through a series of carefully defined test conditions; by taking the human rider out of the equation, cadence and load can be precisely controlled and repeated, ensuring every batch is tested to exactly the same inputs under exactly the same conditions.

At the heart of Precision Lab sits a LISAB sensor. Located between and connected to both motor and bike, this sensor measures torque and cadence (RPM) directly at the crank, independently of the motor and of the bike’s own measurement system.

Using a simple formula, this data is then translated into watts and displayed on a small screen next to the motor. Distance travelled can also be calculated from RPM, flywheel diameter and length of time in motion.

At the same time, the BODY BIKE app displays the power, cadence and distance data being transmitted to the app by the bike.

By comparing the independently measured values with the data displayed in the app, BODY BIKE’s engineers can verify that the bike is correctly capturing ‘rider’ effort and sending accurate information to the app.

And let’s be clear: Precision Lab data is data we can trust. Within BODY BIKE’s defined working range, this test rig achieves approximately 0.5–1.5 per cent measurement accuracy depending on cadence and resistance; the highest levels of precision are seen at higher workloads.

Every verification test also generates a complete set of raw measurement data that can be exported and analysed in detail. Engineers can compare production batches over time, identify even the smallest deviations and ensure BODY BIKE’s exacting accuracy standards continue to be met.

In short, it allows us to release every batch of BODY BIKES to the market knowing their accuracy has been proven in a truly market-leading test environment.

Inspiring confidence

Of course, it isn’t Precision Lab that makes our bikes so accurate. The engineering inside each BODY BIKE does that.

What Precision Lab does is provide independent proof that our engineering performs exactly as intended, giving riders, coaches and operators confidence that the numbers they rely on genuinely reflect the effort being put into every ride.
